Norbert A. Weldon ’35
Lettered Star Athlete In Four Sports. One of the foremost athletes of his class, “Norbie” began his athletic career in Pingry’s Middle School. By his sophomore year, he had lettered in football, basketball, and track. In his junior and senior years, he also lettered in baseball, in addition to lettering again in football, track, and basketball and serving as an adjunct member of the swim team in backstroke. Captain of both the 1934 Football Team and the 1935 Track Team, he went on to letter for three consecutive years in football at Lafayette College. A member of Lafayette’s first string on its undefeated and untied 1937 squad, he served as team Co-Captain in his senior year. More than an athlete, this man, whom his contemporaries saw as being imbued “with a perpetual sense of humor”, later established a record of achievements in business and public service for which he was honored with Pingry’s highest tribute, the Letter In Life, in 1993.
