Mahlon M. Scott ’45
Unlimited Talent on the Playing Fields and a Sparkplug in Three Sports. Winner of seven major letters, three for baseball and two each for football and basketball, this talented athlete distinguished himself in every activity in which he participated during his 12 years at Pingry. A halfback weighing little over 120 pounds, “Scotty” constantly amazed gridiron spectators with his long, offensive runs and fighting, defensive plays. On the basketball court, his splendid coordination and consistent high scoring made him a natural choice for Captain of the 1945 Team. A superb baseball fielder, he held down the keystone sack for three years, turning in one of the finest jobs seen in years, while proving a source of trouble for opposing pitchers. An extremely popular and active participant in multiple school activities, “Mahl” held every elective class office during his last four years, and at commencement, was honored with Pingry’s most coveted award, the ‘02 Emblem.
