Peter Boyce Hilgendorff ’61
All-State Gridiron Star, Captain Of Three Varsity Team, And Letterman In Four Sports. Leadership was among this outstanding athlete’s qualities both on and off the playing fields. President of the Student Council and active participant in school activities, Peter Hilgendorff remains among the great athletes in Big Blue’s sports history. A three-season gridiron linebacker and Captain in his junior year, he was named to the All-County and First All-State Football teams, scoring 68 points in one season to break the existing school record. As Captain of the Wrestling Team, he took first place in the Prep State Tournament in his senior year, and in the last two of five years in competition, set a 27-0-2 record. A First Team All-Conference Lacrosse letterman, he was known for his aggressive stick handling and the accuracy of his long shots. He also lettered in track and won the 1960 Alumni Track Trophy as season high scorer. A talented sailor, he captained Big Blue’s Sailing Team and competed in four Inter-Scholastic Championships. At Colgate University, he lettered in football, lacrosse and wrestling, and in his sophomore year, led the wrestling team in victories. Selected in his senior year for the prestigious North-South All-Star Lacrosse game, he earned the rank of All-American Honorable Mention player.
